Omar “SMARTKID” Currie is a seasoned music industry professional and managing director of
Smartkid Records Limited, which he founded in 2007 and upgraded to a limited company in 2023.
With a passion for nurturing talent, SMARTKID has built a state-of-the-art recording
studio in Portmore, Jamaica, offering top-notch audio editing, mixing, vocal recording services
and more.
Starting as a singer, SMARTKID transitioned to promoting parties and eventually found his
calling as a producer, recording engineer, and artiste manager.
He has worked with notable artists like Tarrus Riley, Kabaka Pyramid, Lutan Fyah,
Kymani Marley, Sizzla, Beenie Man, and Merciless, to name a few.
He has released several projects, including Life Rhythm, Set It Off Riddim, Success of
Discipline, among others.
Currently, he is working on the label’s upcoming album, set for release in 2026, featuring
resilient and empowering tracks by Tarrus Riley, Sizzla, and more.
His production skills have earned him a Grammy nomination for his work on
Jesse Royal’s “Royal” album, (track entitled “Like Dat”), featuring Runkus.
In addition to his music career, Omar “SMARTKID” Currie serves on the board of directors at
the Jamaica Association of Composers Authors and Publishers (JACAP) and serves on two
committees: the Membership committe and the PR committee.
