Omar “SMARTKID” Currie is a seasoned music industry professional and managing director of Smartkid Records Limited which he founded in 2007 and updated to a limited company in 2023. With a passion for nurturing talent, SMARTKID has built a state-of-the-art recording studio in Portmore, Jamaica, offering top-notch audio editing, mixing, and vocal recording services.

Starting as a singer, SMARTKID transitioned to promoting parties and eventually found his calling as a producer, recording engineer, and artiste manager. He has worked with renowned and talented young artists like Runkus, Tarrus Riley, Kabaka Pyramid, Lutan Fyah, Kymani Marley, Sizzla, Beenie Man, and Merciless, to name a few.

He has released several albums (Life Rhythm, Set It Off Riddim, Success of Discipline). Currently he is commissioned to work on the label’s upcoming PROSPERITY album, featuring inspiring tracks by Tarrus Riley, Sizzla, and more.

In 2017, Omar “SMARTKID” Currie joined the board of directors at the Jamaica Association of Composers Authors and Publishers (JACAP) and serves on two committees: the Membership and PR committee.

His production skills have earned him a Grammy nomination for his work on Jesse Royal’s “Royal” album, (track entitled “Like Dat”). He has also been involved in shooting several music videos, including Runkus’ “Make it Breathe” ft. Tarrus Riley.
